Daily Errors in the System Event Log

Once a day, presumably due to scheduled maintenance task running, on our Windows 8.1 systems (set up with local accounts) we're seeing the following DistributedCom messages, ID 10010, logged:

The server {BF6C1E47-86EC-4194-9CE5-13C15DCB2001} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

The server {1B1F472E-3221-4826-97DB-2C2324D389AE} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

The events are logged about 30 seconds apart.

A search of the registry reveals the first event is related to SkyDrive, specifically "Automatic Maintenance task to enable SkyDrive file sync to make progress while in Connected Standby" while the second seems to also be related to sync maintenance ("SyncEngineCOMServer Class").

On a system with a local account, and on which no SkyDrive access is needed/wanted, what's the method to disable the software that's apparently still trying to access SkyDrive?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We just need to disable following tasks in Task scheduler:

\Microsoft\Windows\SkyDrive\IdleSync Maintenance Task

\Microsoft\Windows\SkyDrive\RoutineMaintenance Task

Since you dont use SkyDrive, you can easily disable them to end this issue.

Hope these could be helpful.

Thank you, Kate.

I had discovered those tasks on my own last night, by snooping around, and had disabled them.

Sure enough, I can confirm that the messages are not logged, as they are normally logged around 7am.  None showed up this morning.

Of course this workaround won't be  useful for those folks experiencing these errors who DO use SkyDrive, but for me this works out nicely.  Thanks again!  :)

Hi

Could you please tell me how this has to be done by GPO? I tried but no avail...

Kate Li:  Please respond to grafcable directly above.  I have the same repetitive Error messages on my new Dell Optiplex 7010 on which I have very recently upgraded from Win 8 to 8.1 (both Pro 64-bit).

Also, even if your initial fix had worked, please advise what we lose if we disable

   \Microsoft\Windows\SkyDrive\IdleSync Maintenance Task

and

   \Microsoft\Windows\SkyDrive\RoutineMaintenance Task

Don't those tasks do something useful?

Finally, how do I edit my signature below?  My current hardware is the Optiplex 7010 dual-booting Win 7 Pro 64-bit and Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit.  I have not been able to find a way to edit the below.

Go to your profile and click on Edit my profile.

There is no place to set a signature there that shows for me. Maybe we see different things.

I have always pasted my sig in manually.

Has it changed?  I don't want to go there any more because it kept removing my HTML and then I had to keep recoding it every time I went back.  Ugh.  Others have complained about that too.  I was assuming that there might be an announcement (and perhaps jubilation) if it was ever fixed so I could go there (e.g. to toggle between Thread view and Unthreaded view) again.

Oh.  Now I remember.  I think I can go there safely, just not do anything there...

WTH?  How do I toggle into Thread View now?

Oops.  It's not My Profile.  It's My Settings.  E.g. via Quick Access menu.

So, my Signature is still there but NOT the way I left it.  And I am going to be UNHAPPY if I have to retype it because I just visited it to see if anything has changed in the UI.

Hi Robert, thanks for that.  When I was looking for it not long ago and I followed the Quick Access > My Settings link I got an "Internal Server Error" message, which led me to completely blank that possibility out in my mind.  I now realize that was a transient problem.

Just now I was able to go in to that configuration panel.  Here's a first try at setting my sig set there...

Wonderful.  Now I can delete it much more easily when I quote. <eg>

BTW now you can't touch it ever again or you will have to start over.  But I guess you already have something you can Paste and not have to retype?  I should have thought of doing that.   ; )

Not sure why that is, but I guess it's not a bad thing.

Noel and Robert - Thanks for pointers to My Settings under Quick Access.

But ... let's get back to the more important purpose of this thread.  Why are we still getting these error messages, and does the "fix" cause us to lose important functions?

Will MS please respond?

Yes for anyone who actually came to this thread for the topic, going off on a tangent is confusing as at a glance we think what you are talking about is relative to the topic and we then have to waste time reading many irrelevant comments to figure out you're going off a tangent. Thnks for that!

I think I may be experiencing network related drop out's relative to these errors and scheduled processes.

I can't be sure but the timing seems about right. I'm having very odd problems where my router is loosing it's adsl connection and the service provider indicates there is no problem on the line and no registered dropouts. Yet it seems to be that the network connection on this pc is interfering with the router settings somehow, as all computers on network loose connection to the internet, but this pc seems to be the only one that looses connection to the router for a short time.

It's quite strange. I'm using a very long network cable that has some chinks in it, so I might try changing that to see if it resolves the problem, but that and these processes are the only things I can identify that might be causing the fault.

Really?  You think going off topic AFTER arriving at the definitive answer is a real problem for you?

Then you complain that the off topic talk interferes with your totally unrelated question?

New to internet forums?  Hint:  Start your own thread.

To summarize this one:  On a system where the user want's no part of SkyDrive / OneDrive, there's a scheduled task that remains and tries to access the online resources.  Someone at Microsoft forgot to get rid of it when OneDrive is disabled.

Simple as that.

How about deleting the comments relative to your tangent about dis-relative signatures, so this resolution is clearer to the million or so people that may visit it. Hint: this ain't facebook!

Hey, MS people, like Kate Li -

'The server {9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.'

I'm still getting a dcom error too. I think some may be caused by skydrive. But this error after checking the process id in task manager was caused by 'Remote Procedure Call' and 'RPC Enpoint mapper'. They may both also relate to skydrive but I have disabled the related skydrive tasks as recommended at beginning of thread.

The xml view detailed error info revealed the process id. This can be checked in Task Manager under the services tab and 'PID' to match it to the relevant process. That's as far as I've got. I still do not know why these services are causing this dcom error.

Note: You must check the process ID upon the instance of the event a restart or shutdown will have differing process Id's
