I have been using Dac Easy accounting software (Now SAGE software) for probably almost 30 years, over every Windows version that came along.  I just copy all the files between computer and it worked, until I tried it on my latest desktop.  I get error "Btrieve version 0.0 is in use" and the application errors out.  It also puts the Background process Database Service Mgr. 32 bit, Persuasive Database, into a loop until I kill it.  This background process only runs at this time.

It is interesting that I can run this application on a Windows 8.1 laptop with no problems at all.  The Background process never gets into a loop and goes away when I exit the application.

I have tried to find another process that is using this that service or Btrieve with no luck.

Both computers are running Windows 8.1 Pro.

Any ideas?

The version on my notebook stopped working too, except that Database Service Mgr. does not get into a loop. I tried to back go back a few days and run restore, but that did not work.

I ran the process monitor but did not see anything useful.

I decided to just buy a cheap bookkeeping program and use that.

An update:  It started working again about 6 weeks ago on my desktop - even better that in pre 8.1 days.  And when I tried using it again late last week, it had stopped working again with the same problem.

I don't use it regularly and the last time I had used it was 4/8/2015.  I assume some Windows 8.1 patch wiped out it's ability to run.

Any ideas?
