Hi my Computer is HP ENVY m6 laptop non touch. It was purchased with windows 8 and I accepted the free upgrade to windows 8.1. Now it will not play my DVD or CD. Before the update it did.

Take a look at Your CD or DVD drive is not recognized which may resolve your problem. Please remember that Windows 8.1 does not come with DVD movie playback capability. Take a look at DVD playback options for Windows for more information.

Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM (if necessary) if you are on win 8 or higher

As mentioned by Bruce, if the system could recognize your device, you can search for a DVD player app in the Windows Store. If you have Windows 8.1 Pro, you can also buy the Windows 8.1 Media Center Pack that includes DVD playback.
