DNS server is not responding BUT my wife's computer and our smartphones can connect
Hi, Conection to wireless network does not allow internet access. Troubleshooter states "dns server is not responding". Tried almost everthing that is on the forums and none have worked. I am not a tech savy guy and need BASIC help please. If anyone says "get the ipconfig /all file and post it, i will, but tell me how to copy and paste. Thanks.

Should have added that it is my computer that does not allow internet access, even though it shows me connected to the network. i did start the computer in "safe" mode and I could then get a connection. I have McAfee Antivirus Plus installed. I disabled the firewall on that, and still could not access the internet.

Are you able to restart in safemode with networking and connect that way? To copy and paste ipconfig you'll need to highlight all of the text and press ctrl and the letter c to copy. To paste press ctrl and the letter v.

I am able to connect to the internet when in safe mode. I did not make myself clear, I am on my wife's computer, so how do I copy/paste from my computer to that of my wife's?

I won't need to see your stats from the ipconfig since you can connect in safe mode. This same thing happened with my Win 7 computer with McAfee. I had to do a system restore to before the point of the last update. Are you familiar with system restores?

Hi, I would give you following suggestions to try. Please refresh your DNS. Open CMD with administrator rights> type ipconfig /flushdns If the issue persist after above suggestion, please try 1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties". 3. Click to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties". 4. In the Internet Protocol window, let's change the "Preferred DNS server" to 8.8.8.8 5.Click 'OK' twice to complete the modification Hope this helps.Your Name TechNet Community Support
