DNS partially lost after Windows update
Workstation: Windows XP ProContext: Member of Windows 2003 SBS domainI just installed Windows XP SP3 & IE8after perhaps 18 months of no updates on this particular workstation, along with five others. Everything was fine at this point, so I ran Windows Updates manually. After the updates were installed (probably 150 MB or more) and a reboot, I no longer have Internet connectivity. This problem occurred only on one station, and the others received approximately the same set of updates. This is DNS-related. I know that the problem is not a loss of all IP connectivity, as I am currently logged onto the station remotely via RDP. However, it will not run the logon script, nor can I manually map a drive to the SBS server. I can get to web pages by IP address, but not by URL. All web pages fail to load in IE8 because the page cannot be found.Attempts to ping local and Internet IP address are all successful, as are DNS pings of local addresses (server and other workstations on the network). However, attempts to ping Internet domains fail (unable to find host). NSLookup yields correct IP addresses for both local and Internet names. Attempts to manually map a drive or even create a direct UNC shortcut to a shared folder on the server result in this message:"Logon unsuccessful: The user name you typed is the same as the user name you logged in with. That user name has already been tried. A domain controller cannot be found to verify that user name."I had this happen with another station in another domain several weeks back and eventually, after reinstalling TCP/IP to no avail, had to run a Windows repair installation. I cannot do that for this station, though, since it is 250 miles away.1 person needs an answerI do too

The only forum available there for Windows XP is one related to installation of SP3. The moderator's note redirects me back to social.answers.microsoft.com, which gets me back here.
