DNS not responding/inet connection comes and goes every 5 mins
Hello there, I am using win 7, ive broadband connection, which goes to a modem => wrireless router(d-link DIR-615). everything worked perfectly fine, till this issue that I started losing inet connection every 5 mins. It just disconnnects and then reconnects by itself. On doing the troubleshoot, it has a issue in resolving the name and says DNS not responding...bla bla bla... I tried looking up for help on the inet and on this website and tried doing the prefered DNS thingy by inputting the numbers mentioned. But it does not help. I would appreciate any help for this issue. I do a lot of torrent download and upload (if that means anything and I do have microsoft essentials running, and did a scan revealed no virus or threats) Thanks in advance and cheers!!

I think there might be a problem with your router or internet connectivity. Not with windows 7. You could try using an alternate DNS server (not the one from your ISP), such as OpenDNS or Google DNS to help you diagnose. http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ http://www.opendns.com/ When the error occurs, try to ping some familiar IP address at the same time, and see if it keeps responding. It's very probable that it won't, indicating a problem with your internet connection. Try contacting your ISP for support.

We too have the same problem in one of the remaining Windows 7 Users, rest have all gone back to the stable Windows XP! User Laptop is set to DHCP, after booting, Network initializes only after 2 or 3 minutes, main reason why most quit Windows 7 When we check Network and Sharing Center we see a cross sign to the internet, and in troubleshooting we get some DNS error. We manually enter any DNS server IP, even the one we have give through DHCP (8.8.8.8) and Internet is up and running promptly. Even if we switch back to Dynamic configure DNS after this, it work fine. We have to do this every time the laptop is booted!! We don't have any issues with the rest of our Laptop users who use the same settings dynamically. We don't buy into the argument that problem is not with Windows 7. Its just another crappy OS. Does anyone have a solution?

Almost every company I know is at least looking at, if not preparing the migration to 7, or has already migrated. Just saying it's a crappy OS is not very constructive, you might start by analyzing what's happening and giving more details on the issue ;-) Looking at the eventlogs, and see if anything gets logged during that time span of 2-3 minutes could help you find a solution.

Our Users would much rather prefer a stable OS than use the latest but unstable OS, we have been testing/using Windows 7 for the past 10 months or so..and its not been a good experience. We had this "waiting for 3 or more min for network to initialize" issues from the beginning itself and we still have it, even after all the windows updates, and we see from several forums that other users are also having the same issue, why hasn't Microsoft still not been able to solve that issue? XP has been a very stable OS for this long, we would much rather prefer that, than an OS which seems to require a lot of support. Sometimes the Network troubleshooter in Windows7 couldn't find any issue nor a solution. We haven't checked the event logs, didn't get enough time with the laptop. Anyways none of our users want it... :-) we will rather wait... Laptop gets its IP/Gateway/DNS settings from the DHCP server, but DNS resolution error is shown as the error and that too not every time, we manually enter the DNS values and give OK, connection gets established, next time we restart the laptop, the same problem, we do the same workaround and everything is normal!!! We did a fresh installation of this laptop and did a Windows update as well, still same issue!! :-( Will post more details as and when we get more time to troubleshoot.
