DNS Registration Refresh Interval
We have an issue where our Vista clients do not seem to be updating in DNS. We don't specify any DNS Client settings via GPOs. And I was lead to believe that Vista clients would attempt to dynamically update at least once every 24 hours by default. Do
we need to specify the Dynamic Updates and set the refesh interval via GPO? Occasionally our DHCP server sees a request from a Vista client that does not contain a hostname, it assigns a generated hostname and registers that in DNS on behalf of the client.
What I was expecting was the Vista client to update that entry with is proper hostname at some point in the following 24 hours.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.
If this issue occurs to all Windows Vista clients, it might due to the Server side.

Hi,
You needn't to specify the Dynamic Updates and set the refresh interval via GPO. By defauly, vista client will update their A record once every 24 hours.
Where do you see the request from the vista client without a hostname? Could you please attach the logs?
Best Regards
