DNS Not Responding on Wireless Network
I have a really strange DNS problem. I can connect to the internet via wireless and wired connections. However, when connected via wireless the connecting is very slow. This all started very suddenly. One second I was downloading at full speed and the next it just slowed way down and nothing I have done can get it back up. Troubleshooting already done: 1) Reboot of computer and router. 2) I have pinged the IP, flushed DNS cache, etc. 3) I changed the DNS perfered port to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 Changing to 208.67.222.222 helped the speed a little bit but I am still not back to full capability. When wired everything works perfectly. Any help would be appreciated.

DNS should have little to no affect on your internet experience. Since you mentioned that when you are connected via wire, connectivity is good. It could be that you simply have a poor signal on the wireless. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

I would think that too but it is working on for my roommates just fine and I have the newest and best computer. Plus, two days ago it was working perfectly.

Understood. When you are connected, is the wireless connection icon in the system tray showing a good or excellent connection? You can access its properties to get more information. Think about what has changed on that computer during the past few days. Have you applied any updates on the computer, installed additional hardware? Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

I suggest you temporary disable the antivirus. If it does not help, please follow the steps below to disable auto-tuning. To disable auto-tuning, use the following command. netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabledPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Not so strange - this JUST started happening to me this past weekend (Dec 18th) -- laptop w/Windows 7 is fine while wired in at work, but wireless at home I have a new problem with DNS resolving being slow -- all other network performance is fine. Other three computers in my household (1 Vista, 2 XP) perfectly fine. I have had this laptop on my wireless network for quite some time now and use it daily, only this past week this problem started happening. It's also a bit intermittent, there are brief periods where everything is back to normal. Creates a painful browsing experience. Symptom can be seen plain as day with a PING to a domain name -> blank line for a 9-10 seconds until finally the name resolution occurs, then very very good response times once the packets get going with no packet loss. I've installed nothing new. Windows 7 Updates published from our work SUS the only thing last week. I initially thought to turn off the antivirus but that had no effect, also Arthur's suggestion to disable autotuning doesn't seem to have corrected the problem. I also tried changing my DNS from my ISP to Google's DNS servers to rule out a domain server problem - this was no help, but I expected as much since I have three other computers working perfectly. Edit: should also point out my wireless status is full bars 54.0mbps and I have zero issues browsing to my in-house web server, my wireless access point's web interface, my router's web interface all by IP address.
