DNS Error when connecting to domain
I am trying to connect my PC with Win 7 PRO to my domain, but after entering all the pertinent information, an error message pops up that says "An attempt tp resolve DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined failed". Anyone know how to fix the issue?

The client machine uses DNS to find the domain controller. What is the primary DNS address of the client? It should be the domain controller's IP address. If that is correct, what happen if, from a command prompt, you do an nslookup of your domain name?Bill

Thanks for the reply Bill. The DNS address is set up to the IP of the domain controller. I tried nslookup from the command prompt, and didn't receive anything. I really don't know what the problem is, and may have to consult a Windows expert to set it up.

You may need to enter full domain name. The computers in domain may have a DNS suffix search list but the non-domain member computers should not.Arthur Xie - MSFT

After several hours on the phone with Microsoft experts, it was determined that Symantec was not allowing the PC to join the domain. Simple fix, now that its known.

Hello This is my first time on these forums and I have the same issue as meriam1980 in that I cannot seem to join a windows 7 PC to my 2003 domain. THere is no DNS service running on my DC - I have only 1 DC. When I run nslookup it gives me the default server of my ISP ns2.hol.gr. Do I need to setup DNS on my present DC and then setup a forwarder ?? Many Thanks in advance for any assistance Peter
