DNS Client loses connectivity after an hour (RTM)
I have a machine with an on-board Marvell Yukon NIC running Windows 7 RTM which after 1-2 hours loses DNS capability completely. it is then unable to authenticate to the domain, etc. The motherboard is an Abit IP35. I have tried: disabling power saving options on the whole computer disabling power management on the nic a different nic (Realtek ) and the problem still occurs disabling/enabling interface updating drivers to the latest Marvell Windows 7 ones. dynamic IP address refresh, flushdns, renew Adding a Multi_SZ_String named DNSQueryTimeouts A packet sniff on the interface shows there is no outgoing DNS query being made in response to an NSLOOKUP. -it still will do host file name resolution - netbios name resolution \\DCNAME does not work Only a reboot solves the problem. Can anyone please help with this.

Hi, Please let us know what is the DNS server and the DHCP server. Is it the router you directly connect, or the DHCP server and DNS server you installed on a Windows server system? Are there any other Windows computer that has this issue? I suggest that you temporary disable firewall on the Windows 7 computer because it may block DNS related network data pack. Please let us know the result. The NetBIOS resolution will not work if the computer connects to a router. Because NetBIOS resolution works based on broadcasting, but we could not send broadcasting pack through a router.Arthur Xie - MSFT

There is a local DNS/DHCP server (Windows 2003) on the same LAN segment. The other computers on the LAN do not experience this issue. This computer previously ran Vista Ultimate and did not experience this issue -it only occured after doing an upgrade to Windows 7. I have already tried disabling the Windows 7 firewall once the issue occurred and that did not help (sorry I did not mention that before).

I suggest you upgrade the network adapter driver. If there is Windows 7 compatible driver please try it. I suspect that the current driver is not compatible with Windows 7, so the Registry values related to DNS server cannot be properly queried sometimes.Arthur Xie - MSFT
