DNS-lookup fails on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
I have installed Windows 7 Professional x64 on my Dell Inspiron 531. The OS is from MSDN and is the RTM-version and my network card is a nVida nForce. The problem I have is that sometimes (pretty often) i can not load webpages and when I look in the eventlog I get his message:Name resolution for the name [URL] timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded. I search for some answer and found out that this seams to be a pretty common problem for 64-bit Windows 7. I tried a lot, I changed my ISP DNS to openDNS, I inactivated my virusprogram (Nod32), I uninstalled my nod32 but nothing works, the error keeps coming. Can someone please help me! hesta96 Update: I found out that RSS on nvida-card can cause trouble and disable it by running this command, but it didn't help (i read it in another post on this forum)netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

I suspect that the issue is caused by your DNS server. Another possible cause is your firewall or anti-spyware that may block the returned packages from the DNS server. I suggest you temporary disable other security programs except the Nod32 program first. If the issue still occurs, please let us know if there are other computers that connect to the same DNS server in your network. Additionally please let us know if you are connecting to Internet via a proxy server, or your ISP involves a proxy server on their side.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Thanks Arthur, I have solved it and you were right, I thought I have checked all firewalls and also completly removed my antivirus-program but then I rememberd that there is a firewall in the modem I got from my ISP (Swedish ComHem) and in that there was a settings called "IP Flood Detection" that was enabled. When I disabled it everything started to work. The modem is aCisco EPC2425 and I can't figure out why that setting should do that regular DNS-lookup will fail.hesta96
