We have a Vista Business HP tabletthat up until about two weeks ago would work fine when the userused the VPN client and Remote Desktop to reach it.About two weeks ago the user started to get errors when using remote desktop and the computer name. She can remote using the ip address. After some troubleshooting, I noticed that the computer is showing up in DNS on the local domain controller four time with four different ip addresses. In another off site domain controller it shows up only once. I have done a flush cache and re-registered several times and the four entries keep coming back. When I do an ip config it only shows the one correct address. I have removed network adapters - wireless and ethernet, ran windows update, removed the vpn client (two of the ip addresses that show up are not from our range). I was going to to a system restore, but it only gives me restore points back to the 14th which is not far enough back.

Please start NetMon on both machines.6) On the Windows Vista machine, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.7) In the Command Prompt, type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter.8) Once the DNS records update on the DNS Server again, go back to the Netmon window and press F11 to stop the Netmon on both machines.9) Press Ctrl+S to save the netmon files. 2. They do show up in DNS as host A records. I now have 6 for the same machine - at least two are ip addresses that the machine no longer has. I deleted the records in DNS, removed any old DHCP lease records for this machine, clear the DNS cache on the tablet and then re-register and the 6 records show up for the one tablet. We definately do not have any other computers with the same name on the network. I will run netmon when I get a chance, but the user is on the machine today.

Hi 000stewie, I have checked the Netmon file and found that the Windows Vista machine does attempt to update other IP addresses besides the correct one ##.##.##.134 to the DNS server. They are: ##.##.##.134 ##.##.##.3 ##.##.##.10 ##.##.##.29 ##.##.##.142 ##.##.##.36 I suspect that there are some invalid interfaces on the machine, which can be the cause of the issue. As a result, lets check the following points: 1. Is there any disabled Internet Connection on the machine? 2. Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe), click Edit, click Find, and type the incorrect IP addresses in the Find dialog box to check if they are existing in the registry. As the IP addresses may be automatically assigned by DHCP server, they may have been changed now so that you may not be able to find out them this time. In this case, we need to enable the Netmon again in order to check the latest IP addresses. Here are the detailed steps: ========================================== 1. Start Netmon:1.1.
