DHCPv6 Client Service running after disabling IPv6
HI All: I've attempted to disable IPv6 on the NIC settings and through the typical registry keys'. After doing this, I see that DHCPv6 Client Service is starting: Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-DHCPv6-Client Date: 10/15/2010 10:13:52 AM Event ID: 51046 Task Category: Service State Event Level: Information Keywords: User: LOCAL SERVICE Computer: pc1.usa.internaldomain.net Description: DHCPv6 client service is started Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-DHCPv6-Client" Guid="{6A1F2B00-6A90-4C38-95A5-5CAB3B056778}" /> <EventID>51046</EventID> <Version>0</Version> <Level>4</Level> <Task>4</Task> <Opcode>62</Opcode> <Keywords>0x2000000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2010-10-15T14:13:52.293620800Z" /> <EventRecordID>8933</EventRecordID> <Correlation /> <Execution ProcessID="948" ThreadID="1272" /> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>pc1.usa.internaldomain.net</Computer> <Security UserID="S-1-5-19" /> </System> <EventData> </EventData> </Event> I've disabled ISATAP and WANMiniPort (IPv6) devices, and the service is still running. When I go to Services, All I see is DHCP Client Service as started, but I don't see any DHCPv6 Client Service listed. How can I fully disable this service from starting? Josh

The things you did just disables IPv6, but did not disable DHCPv6 client. DHCPv6 client will response to the DHCPv6 server. However if you disable IPv6, you should not get an Ipv6 address for your computer. To check the result, just run ipconfig/all and confirm if you have an IPv6 address. Ok, I ran ipconfig/all and I do not have any IPv6 addresses. But how do I disable DHCPv6 client service from starting, without affecting DHCPv4?

No such option in Windows. You can try to disable the DHCPv6 server. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Sorry, but I'm still confused. I have not setup any DHCPv6 server, so what is there to disable? Am I missing something? How can Win7 start IPv6 DHCP client service when I've done nothing to enable it on my network or the PCs?
