DCOM application properties not editable (DistributedCOM Event 10016)
Hi, in the event log, many DistributedCOM event id 10016 (do not grant Local Activation permission for CLSID, APPID to USERID) errors appears in the Windows 7 x64 event log, all associated with one particular CLSID (MSIServer {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}).
I've tried to follow http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899965, but properties of the AppID in the dcomcnfg snapp-in has all editable fields disabled so I could not update permissions to correct the issue.
The event is logged when I open a new tab in Internet Explorer 8, which triggers showing a MSI window for a second.
The logged user is an administrator. Run the tool with Run as administrator command did not help.
How can I fix this error (how to make the fields editable or other proposed solution)? It is safe to grand the permission to this COM application? Thank you.

Hi, the installer completed successfully when a web page was opened by a link from another installer. However, I am still insterested in how to change the disabled values. Thank you.

Hi Dale,
thank you for sharing me the documents. I have found and treid them eairlier. Unfortunatelly, the values, I should have changed as described in that documents, are disabled in the Properties dialog even the current user has administrative priviledges. That
is why I am interested how to change that values when the controls in the Properties dialog are disabled.

Hi,
Please enable the built-in administrator and see if you can edit the properties, type:
net user administrator /active: yes, then log in the built-in administrator account.

Hi,
your issue can only be solved by changing the security settings for the
corresponding registry entries. Go to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID\{AppID of the event log} right click and
select Permissions , set yourself as owner (via Advanced) and
afterwards grant yourself full permissions to this entry. If you
afterwards go to the properties of this DCOM object, you can edit the
settings. (This is because many DCOM objects only allow changing
settings for TrustedInstaller in WIN7)
