In our environment, we have setup Server 2012 R2 DA (single server) with Windows 8.1u1 clients.

All DA hotfixes have been applied as per http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2883952/en-us?sd=rss

Clients can all connect via DA with no issues, however, we have noticed two things when tyring to "manage out" i.e. RDP to machines connected via DA.

1) The machines do not register their IPHTTPS interface in DNS

2) After setting up an isatap DNS entry and using group policy to selectively apply this as per http://blogs.technet.com/b/jasonjones/archive/2013/04/19/limiting-isatap-services-to-directaccess-manage-out-clients.aspx

We have setup the same environment in a test lab - and it all works fine.

The production network has been through many sets of hands over the years - and there is a likely a setting somewhere which is screwing us up.... however, we have had no luck in finding it.

Does anyone have suggestions on what we should be logging for these issues ?

Standard event logs and DNS debug logs have not been assistance as yet.
