D-Link Routers not supported
Out of the box, or even with the newest firmware, routers from the D-Link company seem not to work. I tried three of them: DGL-4300 DI-624, DI-714P+. Either of these routers will assign an IP address and Vista will recognize it. I can browse the router setup pages and even ping from those pages, but I cannot access the outside internet from IE or Firefox. On the other hand, Belkin routers are direct plug and play. Here's how I have my network set up now: Vista --> Belkin Router (on DHCP connection) ---> D-Link DGL-4300 (on PPOE) ---> Bridge DSL modem ---> Internet If I remove the Belkin out of the picture, no outside connection to the net works. Now, I understand there are problems with Vista and router firewalls, but that should still occur after I put in the Belkin router in the middle. What I am seeing however is that the networking with some of these router companies sucks. Is it because some of these companies don't contribute to the development or is it just because Vista has a bug? Either way, I predict that unless this issue is resolved, cutomers are going to be really angry when they have to modify advanced networking parameters in their routers come January, or have to purchase new ones just because Vista decided to deviate from standard. However, it may just be that I am mistaken and that there is an acual solution for this problem that I haven't found. In that case ignore my rant and send me that answer. Thanks :)

It looks like Vista has a problem with SPI (statefull packet incpection) firwall on the routers. You heve to check if you can disable the SPI on your D-Link router and do it. I have the same problem with a sagem router and I am stuck because I can not disable it.
