Credentials Manager Password
I use a networked Seagate media player to stream videos to my TV. The media player requires a User Name & Password logon. I'm using the user name and password I setup in Credentials Manager for the logon because the media player will not accept any other password. When I first hooked up the media player, I was having a problem logging on despite using what I thought was the correct password so I checked the password setup for my Credentials. I used a seven character password but when I checked I saw that there were eight characters listed for the shortcut. Thought I made a mistake and re-entered and saved the seven character password again. Went back in to check if was saved correctly and surprise, surprise the eighth character was back. I had no idea what character Windows added so no way I could use it. I then saved an eight character password and was able to log on to the media player. Windows 7 does accept my seven character password for Windows log on but Credential Manager insists on eight. Seems to me that MS should point this out. Tony

Hi, A strong password is at least eight characters long. Windows passwords can be much longer than the eight characters recommended above. My post questioned Windows 7 adding the eighth character to the password without alerting me or at least telling me it wants eight characters. If it did, I wouldn't have wasted a day trying to figure it out. Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support Tony
