Couple of basic network questions for Vista.
hello,i have just updated my laptop to vista enterprise 32bit edition and i have a couple of questions.1) i have not put my laptop on the domain. before i updated, i was able to still access network resources via the \\server command. vista tells me it cannot connect.2) i can't connect to my shared printer at home (home pc runs xp pro) nor can i connect to network printers (server 03) at work. i'm sure this is a simple fix. but i cannot find it.thanks

Unfortunately, it may not be simple as the Vista Forums are FULL of pissed off folks w/ the same issue...and Microsoft hasn't issued an answer of yet.I have three XP systems that are networked fine...my new Vista laptop can "see" them on its Network Map, but they do not show up in the "Network" folder so I cannot share folders/files between the XP boxes and the new Vista laptop. I have LLTD config'ed on the XP's but still the issue remains. In my mind this is incredible bobble on Microsoft's part...or a great revenue generator as both Microsoft and Compaq have said they want to charge me $60 to solve this issue....the laptop's friggin 4hrs old and they want to CHARGE for supoprt on it.Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

This may or may not help but under the network type is it listed as Public, Home, or Office? If it is listed as Public mine will refuse to let me browse the network. When listed as Home or Office it does. As for the previous posters question try to map using the \\server\share as before in XP. On either a Home or Office network it will allow this BUT under the Public network it will refuse to do so. Youmay find that under Office or Home you have to enable the File and Printer Sharing as well as Network Discovery. YMMV
