Could not boot from Windows 7 - secondary plex
Hi, Just get a new computer with 4x500 gb hard disks. 2 are used for for system files (disk2 and disk3) and 2 (disk 0 and disk1) are used for data with help of Win7 disk management. Raid 1 was created on System and Data disks ok. This is Windows 7 32bit system. But when tried to boot from "Windows 7 - secondary plex", the computer always shows boot failures redirect to repair window. Is this normal as I am wondering whether the 2nd boot is for me to use I have a hard disk failure. When entered Disk Management, found out that Disk2 and Disk3 - the system disk have a yellow sign (black shouting mark on a yellow triangle), if tried to remove the mirror, only got "The specified plex is a the current system or boot plex", remove mirror failed. Search on web, someone suggested to use DiskPart to remove, I am not sure whether this could damage the whole system. I don't want to remove the raid 1 from the system, just tried to understand how it works. Please advise. Thank you and regards, Ke

Hi Ke, Thanks for the post! According to your description, It seems you got a hard drive failiure. Which disk is your original system disk? I recommend you boot from the original system disk, then do a drive check to find if there's any error. Then follow these steps to remove the mirror volume: 1. Click Start, input cmd in the search box, right-click to run cmd as Administrator. 2. Input the command: diskpart [Press Enter] list volume [press Enter] select volume X (X is the alphanumeric identifier of the mirror volume) [press Enter] 3. Determine the numeric identifier of the disk containing the plex you are currently booted into ("Boot Disk") using the lisk disk, select disk and detail disk commands. 4.Use the command break disk=n to break the mirror, where n is the numeric identifier of the disk containing the mirror plex you are not currently booted from. 5. The mirror will be broken, and both plexes will be converted to Simple volumes. Does anyone have a solution when the mirrored drive has failed and is listed as missing. the above 'copy' of KB 969749 only works if you have a working pair of drives. If one has failed terminally, this solution will not work. In my case I have 'DiskPart' listing the mirrored drive as 'missing.' If I try to break the mirror, it screams about the plex. I have the bcdedit set to boot to the mirror - that is still working D-B-S
