Could able to browes the web site using IE or Google chrome though my internet shows connected__ __

I could not able to connect internet after Windows XP home updates are failed. It shows internet is connected and modem is fine and I even could able to use my phone over internet fine. but IE is not able to display any website for browsing.I backed out to previous working date but still not working. I tried to browse in Google Chrome but still it not working. It says Name_server not found(DSN) or reconnect to internet.I reconnected and restarted but still it is not working. Pls let me know if any one knows what is the problem.1 person needs an answerI do too
