Corrupt recycle bin

Hiya!

Error: "The Recycle Bin on C:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?"

The issue was caused by changing rights to all of C: which a prompt informed "did not stick" to recycle bin, C:\boot and others. Changing the rights back to what they were to begin with gave no joy, only same prompting that rights did not stick to these 8 or so files/folders.

I have found many forum posts regarding corrupted recycle bin, but non that addresses my issue, and few that seems to have any relevance to 8.1. I tried the "rd /s /q C:\Windows\WinSxS\FileMaps\$Recycle.bin" in elevated CMD and also with the long version of the file name with file extension. I can't find that other files should be related to Recycle Bin?

I tried fiddling with Recycle Bin Properties to suppress this error, as I don't care about restoring the functionality as much as I care about not being prompted for this 100 times in a day. I also tried to hide Recycle Bin in GPedit to see if this would help, but to no prevail.

Any input on further troubleshooting in Win 8.1 is appreciated :o)

Hi

Run this from an elevated command prompt:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

After that reboot your machine.

Hi,

Meanwhile, you may need to repeat this command inside of each hard drive or partition letter that you have displayed in Computer

RD /S /Q Drive-Letter:\$Recycle.bin

Hi

The result of running that command is "The directory is not empty" and no joy after reboot. It is run in elevated CMD from an admin user. Only C: partition exists.

Anyone else has some input, would still be much appreciated :)
