Corrupt files on Windows XP and and worrying call from PC Doctor technician in India.
The PC Doctor call is a fraud, and many people have received such calls. If they call again, hang up immediately. For more information, please see heard of "Virtual PC Doctor?" in the Windows XP Security, privacy and User Accounts forum. How do you know that your computer has corrupt files? Did someone tell you to look in Event Viewer? It's completely normal for any Windows computer to show hundreds of errors and warnings in the Application log in Event Viewer. They don't indicate corrupted files.Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

Please explain how to completely delete corrupt files from my computer which uses Windows XP Media Edition. I have had the computer cleared completely but the technician put the files in question back on as thought I may need them. I cannot understand the revelance of keeping these files on my computer or if they can harm other programmes. I am anxious also about a call today from PC doctor assistants from India who suggested that I remove the files and what it would cost for them to do it etc. I do not understand how they established the fact that I had such files or how they accessed my telephone number. I found their tone quite intimidating and want to know if they have possibly hacked into my computer. Why can I not delete these files myself without paying someone else to do it? Please give me advise on this if at all possible as it is worrying me and making me feel insecure when using the computer in question. Thanking you in advance.

If they charged you money for their unnecessary and fraudulent service, they're thieves. They might also be:Making other fraudulent charges on your credit card. Selling your credit card information to other criminals. Trying to steal your identity. Installing malicious programs on your computer. Boulder Computer MavenMicrosoft Most Valuable Professional
