Corporate Firewall Authentication Incorrect
Running Win7 in Vmwareworkstation 6.5.2without joingmy domain, ie., workgroup mode. On otherOSs, when I attempt to get to the public internet, I am prompted for a user ID and password by our corporate firewall. Generally I enter domanname\first.x.last and a password. With Win7, I get rejected because the slash is left out of the authentication string. Our firewall blocker responds that domannamefirst.x.last is not authorized. Anyone have the same result and have a workaround? I have tried this both with and without using the proxy.

Should have mentioned that I am using RC1 build I downloaded yesterday.

Which browser do you use on the working OS's?
May 6th, 2009 11:03pm

Usually Firefox. The OS is Ubuntu (several dorky animal versions). Using IE8 that comes with RC1 on the non-working VM. If I wait several hours or overnight, I can get the system to prompt me again. Don't know how to get it to speed up. I cannot (and would not) join this to our domain as a domain computer as I don't have those rights and this would not be allowed anyway. I work in corporate IT but am not a domain admin.

Have you tried installing Firefox on the Windows 7 box to see if that works? I have a feeling that IE might not load the page correctly...

Not yet, as I did not have an install copy of Firefox on a drive and could not get to the Internet to download it. Maybe the EU will force MS to include copies of Firefox and Chrome with EU versions of 7 :-)

Have you tried running your browser in safe mode (ie with no add-ons)?
June 30th, 2009 7:16pm

I have not put in any add-ons, but I suspect it has more to do with a proxy checking to see if the PC is a valid corporate build. I would run into the same problem on PCs that had not been added to the domain or that did not have the full A/V and management suite installed. Thanks for the suggestions though. The same thing has now started happening on my Linux builds, so I think the firewall crew has implemented more checking. Life in the enterprise I guess.

I have the same problem. IE8 on the RC does not authenticate on our corporate proxy. I also will not and can not join the domain. This problem extends beyond just browsing the internet in that everything else on the RC does not see the internet/does not connect if the authentication does not work. Authentication works fine in Firefox. I have tried this and am loosing hope with this issue. Why does Microsoft not fix the RC instead of me trying to fix everything else in my environment??!!How does one run the IE8 browser in safe mode?
