Copy of Windows folders?
I installed my Vista Enterprise OS to my C drive a month ago. Downloaded all updates for it. I have two disks on my computer HDD1 - C, E and HDD2 - D. Last week I noticed (maybe it was there for longer time) that my D drive contains Windows, Program Files and ProgramData folders too !!! I tried to search the registry for these paths "D:\Windows", etec. but nothing was found. Then I renamed the folders to Windows_bak - worked fine. Restarted my computer nothing bad happened so I decided to remove the folders because I need the space. However it does not work - something locked the files (maybe in use) and the OS refuses to delete the files/folders. I tried to remove the folders even in Safe mode - it is not possible. Also tried to stop the C drive System protection still not possible to remove the folders. Any idea what caused this? Thanks, Abyss

Hi Abyss, can you format partition D? If not, can you let me know the detail error message?

I was pretty disapointed with Vista. I had about 3 weeks installed on my PC and afte the network connection issue which always disconnected me I decided to return back to Windows XP. For more info see http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3803432&SiteID=17 (Sorry for the tone in my post but I was pretty tired with doing nothing just searching the Internet for solutions). This is a pretty sad that each release something is compeletely reimplemented in Windows which breaks the compatibility with hardware and software (drivers). What even surprised me that my computer is one year old - certainly not an only PC - and Vista has such basic issues. Regarding the Vista Copy issue: I have 4 harddisk in my computer. 2 and 2 connected to RAID array - strip mode to achieve high performance. Last year I had to test x64 environment so I installed to my second logical HDD WinXP x64. My first had WinXP x32. One month ago I decided to switch competely to Vista, I reformated my first logical drive (WinXP x32) and installed there Vista. Now I can't really remember that during the Vista insallation I give format to my second logical HDD or this formating was done after Vista installation. However the second logical HDD was certainly formated. After I switched back to WinXP x32 I formated again my first logical HDD only and installed WinXP x32. After the installation I tried to get rid these Vista copy folders from my second logical HDD, however I could not delete them!!! From this I figured out that the entire disk is probably corrupted so I tried to format it what cleared everything. Now my WinXP system is clean and working again and what is more important is STABLE like a rock ! Hope these infos help. Thanks, Abyss
