Control Panel crashes Windows Explorer
Same as some other people running Windows Ultimate only mines the 32bit client. Explorer crashes everytime I try to access the control panel and it's just not on. We need a Bob The Builder on this one Microsoft. Almost a year and still no fix?

Hi,
I would like to suggest you run the following steps and paste the result in your reply.
1. Click Start Menu, type "cmd" (without quotation marks) in the Search box.
2. Right-click the exe file and choose "run as administrator".
3. Input the following command in the DOS prompt window and press ENTER:
CD C:\windows\system32
DIR *.CPL > C:\CPL.TXT
4. Please copy the content of C:\CPL.TXT in your reply.
I would like to check if some third party software added some .CPL files which may conflict Control Panel.

Hi, try to request the following hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978433 (Windows Explorer crashes and then restarts when you access a third-party Control Panel item on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2) click on View and request hotfix downloads select the platform (x86 or x64) and type in your email twice and type in the captcha ad click request hotfix. After 1 minute you have an email with the link to download an exe. Use the password which is included inside the email to extract the update. Install the update and reboot. Is the issue fixed? And you should delete / rename the file AKCPanel.cpl. This should fix your issue."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code"

Great, it worked! Thanks Andre.
What is it about AKCPanel.cpl that breaks explorer?
March 31st, 2010 6:46pm
The cpl is part of AstonShell. Do you use this Explorer replacement?"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code"

I don't use AstonShell, which i just checked out and looks real cool. is it safe?
May 12th, 2010 8:07pm
I would not recommend you to use Shell-Replacements. Strange, that you have the file AKCPanel.cpl if you don't use such a tool.
Ok, if deleting the AKCPanel.cpl solves your issue, everything is fine.
Enjoy your Windows 7 :)"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/
