When I attempt to access a Control Panel via the Jump List -- "Set Program Associations" -- I get this error:
There was a problem loading the 'Set a Default Program' page. (Error code: 80004005)
I did an online search for this and I found the exact same post by someone else in the Windows 7 forum from 2009. I just wanted to say this is still an issue apparently.
I don't know why I am having this issue; that is to say I just reinstalled my operating system seven hours before; I should in theory have a perfectly good working system.
I had Windows Pro 8.1 with Windows Media Center and wanted to clean things up. So I stuck in my Windows Pro 8 disc and reinstalled that. After the fresh Windows 8 Pro install was completed I installed absolutely every single Windows Update there was for Windows 8. I then proceeded to the Windows Store and did the Windows 8.1 installation; it gave me Windows 8.1 Pro. After that update I again installed every single Windows Update there was for 8.1. All of this took seven hours.
At no point during any of this did I change, move or install anything else. It was an untouched system from start to finish. After everything was completed and my system was ready for my personal use, not long after I got that error message.
If I access the "Set Associations" directly from the Control Panel I have no issues, but if I try to use the "Set Program Associations" from the Control Panel's Jump List this error pops up every time.
