Control Internet Access on networked PCs
Here is a small office with about a dozen Windows 7 Professional machines running on a workgroup LAN. The DSL router has DHCP enabled. Is there any software that can be installed on a designated Win 7 machine that can monitor and control Internet access on any of the other machines ? Company work involves working on work for publication and it is desirable that all PCs can communicate between themselves and our print and storage servers but have Internet access only at designated times and durations only. We do have a couple of machines planned to be Internet-accessible at all times for anyone's use, though. It is only the production machines that we need to have control over. We are trying to learn as much as we can about this before actually implementing anything. Hence this academic inquiry. Regards and thanks. Jyanendra ------------

Hi, I am sorry to tell you that Microsoft Company do not have any software can do this on Windows 7, but maybe you can try the ISA Server. Also, To Purchase one multiple-functions router can also achieve your purpose.

You will need to deploy a proxy solution. Microsoft ISA provides this capability. There are other 3rd party applications that you can purchase, very few are free. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Check your Router options. Many will let you control access. For instance, my Netgear router has the following option: Block Services Help Block Services allows you to block Internet access by specific users on your local network based on their IP address. For example, you can prevent the use of certain Internet services such as surfing the Web (http) by everyone or just a few people on your network. You can configure service blocking to be on never, on according to a schedule, or on always. Jerry
