Contribution to Win 7 Wireless issues
I have been trying to work on the issue of not being able to connect to HomeGroup with a wireless client and have made some observations that might contribute to a solution/fix for the seeming problems with Windows 7 and wireless networking. I'll list them here along with my current setup.Network:Netgear Wireless N router (forget which model)Clients:2 Desktops hardlined into the router running W7 Ult x641 laptop wireless connection to network running W7 Pro x641 Desktop wireless connection to network running W7 Pro x32Alrighty...HomeGroup results:Created HomeGroup with custom password and was able to connect both hardwired Desktops together using this feature no problem.Turned on laptop to try to connect to HomeGroup and it offered me to create a new HomeGroup because none was avail. Ran troubleshooter and it discovered it but promptly "forgot" and offered to create a new one again.Turned on wireless desktop with same results as laptop.Network Test: Attempted ping between wired desktops - successfulAttempted pingfromone wireddesktopto laptop - unsuccessfulAttempted ping from laptop to wired desktop - successfulAttempted file access to laptop via wired desktop with Run: \\client-pc\- unsuccessfulAttempted file access to desktop via laptop with Run: \\client2-pc\ - successful with loginHere is where it gets fun:After initiating file access to desktop from laptop using the above method, I am able to ping from my wired desktop to the laptop.Weird eh? Is there some behind the scenes tunneling going on? I don't know... I should pull out WireShark maybe...Alrighty, went into the router to view connected clients and discovered that neither of the wireless client devices were listed in the status report. Don't know why, but they have resolved IPs and everything.Double checked on the laptop that the HomeGroup Out services were active and on. They were. All network sharing and access settings were set as enabled and the network was set as a Home network in Windows 7.All clients are resolving an IPv6 address and are able to ping the router.Removed HomeGroup from all client PCs and rebooted all of them and reattempted connections with HomeGroup with the result still being only wired clients being able to communicate freely.Hope this helps and maybe someone can tell me if what I have provided gives them a clue as to why I am unable to access HomeGroup with my wireless client devices.

So the problem is solved on my networkWe had a power outage last night so obviously all of our electronic equipment turned off because I'm too cheap to invest in a UPS.I think that having the router powered off then powered back on again is what solved the problem. I am now able to connect to all devices on the network with HomeGroup... my wireless desktop is going to have to go back to XP due to bluescreen problems happening constantly. Probably a bad driver, but Asus is pretty crappy about creating drivers for their motherboards.
