Contacting lync for business user from Lync 2010

Hi,

I use lync 2010 and one of my contacts has now upgraded to Lync for Business, his contact is external. When I search the external email address it shows as presence unknown and when I try to send a message it fails instantly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

If your contacts side have upgraded their Lync servers to Skype for Business then it may be an issue with their side depending on the upgrade path they have taken. If there have been no changes on your system then it is unlikely that it will be your side. However, saying that, there are a few things to check your side

1) On your Lync server > Federation and Ext Access > SIP federated Domains - If you are explicitly allowing federated partners and not performing partner discovery then it may be that their access edge FQDN may have changed and you are looking for a service that is no longer there. Remove the Edge FQDN from the allowed domain and save (this is not needed if the other side have configured their DNS right).

Wait for around 15 to 30 minutes for the Lync config to take effect.

2) If still no joy, have you tested whether you can contact the external contact from another computer and using a colleagues account?

3) See if you can telnet to your partner's access edge FQDN on port 443 from your edge server

thanks

Are they (SfB users) able to communicate with other federated users? Are you able to see other federated users status and able to communicate?

The issue might be on SfB side. Enable Lync logging and check for the error message.

Hi RobboJnr,

To better understand your issue, I would like to collect the following information.

  1. Are you able to communicate with other Federated partners ?

If yes, there may be an issue with your contact side, you may ask them to check their Lync Server configurations.

If no, You may check your side. (e.g. If the required ports are opened ? If the certificates have expired ? Also check if theres any event log on Lync Server related to this issue.)

    2. You may run Test-Csfederatedpartner command to see if you are able to connect to the federated domain.

Best regards,

Eric
