Contact Card, TimeZone

Hello everyone

I am trying to figure out how the whole Contact Card system is working, and more importantly why it is showing my current timezone as Rome.

I guess my question is simple, how do you change the timezone on the contact cards?

Also if anyone can explain how the contact card system is working that would be great. Is the contact card that is shown in Lync the same that is showing in Outlook? If so is the contact card system a separate service that is running on both the Lync Server and the Exchange server?

Thank you for any and all assistance.

If this is Lync 2010, then the Outlook contact card will get updated by the Lync client (this can be turned off) and Lync addressbook will show Outlook contacts when you do a search. In Lync server 2013, there's a feature called Unified Contact Store, where Lync contacts will be stored in Exchange server 2013 as a centralize storage. This is not a default configuration but it needs to be configured if required (Both platforms have to be in 2013). The time zone that it picks up will be the Outlook's time zone that configured in "Options" of Outlook.

not always. It can be controlled by location services as well. But in general, it takes from Outlook client. You can see the Source of the contact in the contact card it self.

In the contact card "View Source" It usually says "Outlook Lync Contacts" where it creates a folder in Outlook call "Lync" and place all the "Lync" contacts. That will definitely get the time zone from Outlook

Hi Belroc,

The time zone is collected directly from the users computer operating system.

The time zone information is collected from the Operating system where the client is logged onto.

One way to verify this is, you will not see the TimeZone information of a contact who is offline.
