Connecting to specific folders on windows 7
I have windows 7 home premium installed on my main computer and on my laptop. I have set up a homegroup network and can acess most things including printers via network. However I have a 1tb external drive on the main computer where I store my photo's video's music etc. The drive is st to share and all the folders have the same permissions. I can access all the files except photo's and video's when I try to access them I get the message that I don't have permission contact administrator. I am logged on as administrator on both machines. I have reset permissions a number of times and don't understand why it's only these two files I can't access. Please help in non tech language

Hi, Would you please let me know if you can access the photo and video folders from your main computer directly? What is exact error message received? What is the path of the folder? If any Security software or firewall is running on the main computer, disable them temporary. You also could take ownership of the folder manually. 1.Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties. 2.Click the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab. 3.Click Edit. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 4.Click the name of the person you want to give ownership to. 5.If you want that person to be the owner of files and subfolders in this folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box. 6.Click OK. Best Regards, Niki Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
