Connecting to remote computer problems
Have XP Pro on both work and home computers. Followed the windows XP Get started using remote desktop info. Set work computer as host, when trying to remote connect, after putting in work computer name, I get "an unknown parameter was specified in computer name field". How can I connect to my work computer?

Hi Raider2118, ·Is the work computer protected with password?·Is the work computer have power plan set? When connecting to another computer using remote desktop connection when you specify Computer_name /console in the Computer box, and then you click Connect note that Computer_name represents the name of the remote computer to which you want to connect. To get the computer name navigate to the below location:a. Click Start, right-click My Computerb. Click Propertiesc. Select Computer name tab If you have already tried the above steps then temporarily disable the security software on the computer and then try to connect to the computer and check the results. Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks. How can I connect to my work computer? Please ask in the correct forum, an XP one. Not only is your messageoff-topic here in a Vista forum, but if you ask in the right place, you will have a much better chance of getting the answer you need, since that's where the experts in your technology hang out. Just a guess: Does your computer name contain any invalid characters?"Naming conventions in Active Directory for computers, domains, sites, and OUs" < http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909264 >HTH, JW
