Connecting to a wi-fi network
I recently spent some time trying to fix a problem I was having with internet connectivity with my wifi. I fixed the problem, but the new problem is that each time I reboot, sleep or hibernate my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad Edge) my home connection requires manual entry of the router's password. This despite my having ticked the Connect Automatically box.  Once I enter the password the connection is solid, and it isn't a life-threatening problem, but it is a nuisance.

Might be a power setting for you WIFI adapter. Often times Windows will turn off the adapter to save power, thus disconnecting you and then your modem will want a password to reconnect when it wakes up. You can try these steps to disable it: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/wifi-gets-disconnected-after-sleep

Thank you. Yes, I have unchecked the box that allows Windows to turn off the connection to the modem. I have the problem despite that.

Hi Peter,

You mean the issue persists after you uncheck that configuration, right?

If yes, please try to uninstall the wireless network adapter driver and reconfigure it.

After that, run these commands:

Type netsh wlan show profiles, press Enter to see all wireless profiles on each interface on your PC.

Type netsh wlan show profile "ProfileName", press Enter to see if the WLAN profile is set to connect automatically or connect manually.

Note: ProfileName is the actual name of your wireless network (WLAN) profile.

If it's not automatically, run this command to start Automatically Connecting to a Wireless Network Profile:

netsh wlan set profileparameter name="ProfileName" connectionmode=auto
