WiFi connection process in Vista is broken with respect to secure WiFi networks. Effectively it can't cope with encrypted networks with hidden SSID (because it assumes it will be able to use the SSID to reference the stored network connection information). See "Wireless cannot connect to network when not broadcasting SSID" You have to manually enter the (hidden) SSID each time and try a manual connection, then it might find the saved PSK if you're lucky and avoid you having to type all of that in each time.

It should be possible to use the saved SSID in a pre-saved Network Connection. But this doesn't work. What's the point of being able to save the Network Connection if you can't select it when you want to connect to a Network? Windows expects to match the broadcast SSID. If the SSID is not broadcast it won't match anything. It then refuses to allow the user to select a saved Network Connection - even if the user knows which one has the correct SSID.
