Connecting home computer network and office networks
I am running Windows 7 professional on both my home network and office network. I have a static IP address at the office, and can connect to that, but can only see/connect to one of the office computers. Also I need to have a VPN gateway set up in the office to allow my phone system to install an extension at home. Do I need a specialist router, or will the existing Thomson TG585 be okay

Your router does not support windows 7, you may or may not have some issues if you use it.You did not say if you are using a software phone or a hard phoneI assume you are using Asterisk at the office...If you are using a hard phone then you need a router at home which would connect via VPN to your office router for a point to point VPNthat way all the PC's at work and home would be on the same VPN.If it is a software phone you could get away with a client on the PC and using the PBX as a VPN server (Hamachi / OpenVPN)...But all this guessing without more info from you.

Hi, May I know the following: 1. How do you connect the computer to the two networks, via LAN, VPN, etc.? 2. The topology of your network. 3. The operating system of the computers on your office network. In addition, since the Windows 7 computer cannot see other computers on your office network, please check if you can ping them or access the shared resources with UNC (\\computer\folder or \\IP Address\folder). Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

I connect with windows VPN - I type in the static ip address at the office, and I can access one computer and the files on it, but cannot see the other computers on the office network. All computers at home(2) and at the office (3) are running W7 apart from the computer I can access which is running Linnux acting as a file server. I don't understand your question about the topology of the network.

Hi n2tck, Can you use the Linux File servers remote desktop program. To connect through it, to the other office W7 computers. Also you would have to have your user name added to each of the Office W7 computers. In search panel type in Allow remote access to your computer hit enterThen add your user name. Please bear in mind, that my answer is based on the details given in your post. The more I get the better the answer, Slan go foill, Paul

Hi, Thank you for your update. Please also check if you can ping other computers on your office networks. Meanwhile, I still would like to know if you can access the shared resources of the computers on your office networks with UNC (\\computer\folder or \\IP Address\folder). Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
