I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 8.1 on it. I need to connect to it from a Windows 7 computer. In the past I have had no problem connecting to a Windows 7 computer with remote desktop connection. I cannot connect to the Windows 8.1 computer from any computer, including my Microsoft Surface which has Windows RT 8.1. I can connect to both Windows 7 computers from each other or from either the Surface or the new 8.1 computer but not the reverse direction. I have tried every solution I have seen on the internet to be able to do this and nothing works. Whenever I try to connect to either the Surface, or the new Windows 8.1 computer I get the message that "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: 1. Remote access to the server is not enabled. 2. The remote computer is turned off. 3. The remote computer is not available on the network." All of my computers are on the same network, same Homegroup, same Workgroup. I have set the Windows 8.1 computer and the Surface to both allow remote desktop connections, even shut off Windows Firewall but NOTHING works. I really need to be able to connect to the new Windows 8.1 computer from my Windows 7 computer. I even just upgraded the new one to Windows 8.1 Pro, wasted $100 because it still does not work.
Hopefully someone can figure out why this isn't working!
