Connect to Windows 7 Home Premium Share over VPN
Hello If this question was already asked before please send me the link, I couldn't find it. My question is simple: Is it possible to connect to a Windows 7 Home Premium network share while the connecting client is outside the LAN and connecting over VPN to a Zywall 2 Firewall? I have no problem connecting to the machine on the local LAN and even added some rules to the firewall to allow connections to the installed Firebird SQL server. As we tried to connect to this machine over VPN, nothing happens. I can connect to the printers or other hosts but I couldn't even ping this Windows 7 host. So I decided to modify the firewall and finally found a way to enable ping by allowing ICMP traffic from hosts outside the LAN range (there is a so called option in the firewall, forgot the name) BUT if I do this for SMB and NB traffic.... nothing... Even if deactivated the firewall seems to block traffic from outside of the LAN. BUT this is no traffic from outside the LAN. As I connect over VPN I become the firewall or at least I get the IP of the firewall to communicate inside the LAN. What did I miss? Any suggestions? Thanks Ovski

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px; font: 10.0px Verdana} HI Alex Thanks for your replay. But I've to say you didn't read carefully. The problem is not the VPN connection, VPN is working perfect. The problem is accessing the network share of a Windows 7 Home Premium PC that is sitting inside the network I'm connecting to. But I found it myself and it's as simple as the question (well, I thought it's simple): I just had to enable the "Routing and Remote Access" Service. I don't know why, but this service was disabled. That was a clean Windows 7 installation. I'm really wondering why such an important service is deactivated by default?! Anyway, problem solved! Regards Ovski

Hi, Did you get any error information when you failed to establish VPN to Windows 7? According to you description, it seems that this is related to the firewall, how about other computers? Can they establish VPN connection to Windows 7? You could refer to the following article: Why am I having problems with my VPN connection? Meanwhile, ZyWALL 2 firewall supports IPSec VPN, regarding how to configure it, it is also recommended to contact ZyXEl for further help: ZyXEL Support Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support.
