Connect to Win 7 VPN but cannot see files
I have set my work computer (Win 7 Pro) up for VPN access. I am able to connect successfully from my home on a Vista Home machine. However, I cannot "see" the computer I am connected to. I get a successful "connected" message, but then basically I don't know what to do. I saw on a video to go to "run" and type in "\\my_computer_name\", but when I do this it eventually tells me it cannot connect (and I have the name right). When I click on diagnose it tells me something about there being more than one network connect on my PC. I suppose this is true since I am connected to the internet through my home network and then I have a VPN up also. I can't not be connected to the Internet since I need it to connect with the VPN. Anyway, what am I missing here? Perhaps it is just a user error? I've double checked my work (win 7 pro) for correct settings and my work router (ActionTek PK5000 dsl) is forwarding port 2273 to my comps IP. The VPN is connecting successfully, but I just can't see any files and don't know how to look for them.

Hi, If there are any error messages, please provide the exact error messages for us. After checking this issue, I suggest you try the following steps to check the result: 1. You can use the remote computer's IP address to connect by using UNC (\\<IP_Address>\Share_name) to check what the result is. 2. You should also check the Windows Vista network, please boot into Safe Mode with networking to check it. 3. Configure the VPN Client TCP/IP Properties: 1) Double-click Control Panel, and then click the Network Connections. 2) Right-click the VPN connection that you want to change, and then click Properties. 3) Under This connection uses the following items in the Connection Properties dialog box, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. 4) Click Advanced, click to select the Use default gateway on remote network check box, and then click OK. Hope it helps. Alex ZhaoPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
