Confirmation error when synchronizing with network drive (Vista Business)
Hello, I have a problem on my Vista Business laptop Acer TravelMate 6292When trying to sync with a folder on remote server, sync center shows error "Confirmation error occured"If I remove mapped drive, perform FormatDatabase and then make a new drive to any folder - everything works fine during initial sync. But if I then try to sync manually this error appears again. Network access works fine if not using offline files. This error appears only if I try sync FOLDER or the whole DRIVE, but for one or more FILES everything syncs fine."Clean boot" resulted in remaining this problem. Also after last FormatDatabse mapped drives started dissapperaring from sync center after reboot. I can return them there only by uncheking-cheking "Always available".The problem is in my laptop, not the server, because other Vista laptops work fine with it.I'd apreciate any help in this matter, like explaining "confirmation" of what? And where to look for details on this error, because I don't even know where start searching. Thanks in advance for your help.Regards, Dmitry

Hi, I suggest that you temporary remove the anti-virus, and disable the opened firewall. Then test if the issue persists. If so, check the permission settings of the map drive, set it to allow Everyone to access. If the issue still occurs, right-click the sync icon in Notification Area and click View sync results, this will open Sync Center, where any errors will be displayed next to each sync partnership. Please let us know the detail error message. Also please let us know when the issue occurs, if you do not re-create the mapped drive, but only cancel the synchronization, and re-sync, if the issue can be resolved.

Hi,Thanks for your answer. The issue still occurs after disabling AntiVirus (Symantec), and firewall.I tried a "clean boot" without any autostart items and services (except Microsoft ones) - it didn't help. In addition to that, yesterday I tested the issue in a Wi-fi network with Vista Home Premium PC in it. I created a TEST folder and made it available to other users. From the Vista Business laptop (where the discussed problem occures) I easily gained access to this folder. But as soon as I map it to a drive and make it available offline, the problem appears again. I cannot sync with the folder - it shows "Confirmation error occured".All discussed folders have Full access to everyone. The sync center contains 3 errors after trying to sync:1. Synchrinzation started "PLAY icon"2. Confirmation error occured (I can make a screenshot but there no extra information there, just drive path) "X icon"3. Error during synchronization (synchronization failed) "STOP icon"So I cannot sync at all(!) there is no way to it, besides initial sync, of course, no matter what I try. However I have normal access to all files on mapped drive if it's not marked as "available offline"I've tried everething I know, so you're my last hope.Regards, Dmitry.

Hi Dmitry, In Windows Vista, if system components are lost or corrupt, the most solid way to repair the system is doing In-place Upgrade. However, right now we have not confirmed that the synchronization issue is related to the SFC result. For most of Symantec anti-viruses, although the programs are disabled, some of the background services are still running. I suggest that you temporary uninstall the program. If the issue persists, check the related policies. Open gpedit.msc, and locate to the following branch. Computer Policy/Administrative Templates/Network/Offline Files Make sure that all policies are "Not Configured". Test the issue again. If it still occurs, let's run In-place Upgrade to repair the system. How to do an in-place upgrade on Windows Vista Ultimate ====================================== NOTE: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. 256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry http://support.microsoft.com/?id=256986 1. Click Start, type: REGEGIT in the Start Search bar and then press Enter. Click Continue if it prompts. 2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion 3. Highlight the branch Windows in the left pane. 4. In the right frame we will see the key EditionID. Double click the key. 5. Change the value from "Ultimate" to "Business" and click OK. 6. Exit the Registry Editor. 7. After that registry key is set, put in the Windows Vista installation Media to start the setup process. If you go through the options, it will give an option to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. 8. Select "Upgrade to Vista Ultimate" option and then follow the wizard to complete the in-place upgrade process. After In-place Upgrade, if the issue persists, please open gpedit.msc, locate to Computer Policy/Administrative Templates/Network/Offline Files. Change the value of Event Logging Level to 3. Then try to find some related information in Event viewer.

Hi,Thanks for detailed response, however the issue is still not resolved:Uninstallation of Symantec antivirus did not help, setting event logging to level 3 did not show any errors related to the issue.I didn't manage to perform an in-place Upgrade: changing Event ID from Business to Home Basic did not offer an option to "upgrade to Business" during installation, and just "upgrade" fails after copying and compiling files. Anyway I have certain progress: after setting the user to the root of domain policy, thus making sure that no restrictions are applied to him, the error in sync center changed from "Confirmation error" to "Internal error" which in no better.I tried to perform a FormatDatabase procedure (adding a key to registry and reboot) and after that I lost access to my offline files at all. Besides, my offline files tab in control panel shows 99Gb of used space of 99Gb available and total HDD space (on this tab only) shows as 999 Gb, but my HDD is only 250 GB!Pushing "delete offline files" does not delete them, I still see them in "Browse offline files". And I cannot make any new folder available offlineSo i took ownership of Windows/CSC folder and deleted it's contents (I disabled the service and rebooted before doing this of course), performed FormatDatabase and after two more reboots I had my offline files were back on. This time there were no offline files available, so I really deleted them this time, but this starange limit of 99Gb still remains and I still cannot make any folders available offline. Google search of "offline files 99gb" shows multiple instances of similar issue, but no sulution available. So as far as I see my offline files feature is screwed up. Can I reinstall or reset it to NEW state somehow? The system is Vista Business SP1 with all the latest updates installed.Help, please!!!Thanks in advance.
