Configuring Lync deskphones for a secure network 802.1x authentication

Hi guys,

Just looking for some information on deploying Lync deskphones in a Lync 2010 only environment but with 802.1x authentication. There is already a Cisco CM deployment with these phones doing this of course so we need to show the Lync deskphones (polycom etc.) can also do this well with a view to moving from the CCM to Lync EV.  Ideally I am looking for:

Details on how to configure the phones/Lync/environment for this to work and a list of the current vendors that provide Lync phones that support 802.1x.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers

Hi

I believe the Polycom VVX series phones running UCS 4.0 or higher support 802.1x authentication. I am not sure if the LPE editions (CX series) will. The VVX have a Lync profile on them, but can be configured for 802.x using a provisioning server.

Thanks.

OK but is pass-thru authentication 802.1x supported.  i.e. having a laptop connected to a second ethernet port on the polycom VVX phone to authenticate with a network switch?

I am not sure, it would seem logical that it would as the port itself is a simple switch. Probably better asking Polycom themselves for this. I cannot find it on the datasheet that it specifically supports 802.1x for pass thru, just says supports 802.1x.

Perhaps asking the question on the Polycom forums (if they have one) may give you more information. other than that not sure what else I can add to this

thanks
