Concerning the Pre Order Version of Win 7
I have pre ordered both the Pro and Home versions of Windows 7 and I read an article the other day that said these pre order versions. like OEM versions, will not allow the software to be moved to another computer. Can anyone verify this?toglenn

Not true. The pre-order versions are retail versions and the license can be transferred to a different computer, once it is removed from the original computer.Carey Frisch

Thanks for the quick response. I'm relieved to hear that option is available if needed. I rebuild my computers from time to time and need that flexability.toglenn

According to thread OEM licensing issues / upgrades, you can purchase boxed,OEM licensed"software from a major retailer, such as newegg.com". Since that OEM version did not come in a computer in the first place, how could it be required to stay inanycomputer?See these links:Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit and OEM System Builder License andAuthorized Distributors. and this. Also, would you post a link to that article you mentioned? Thanks.

I've seen advertisements from European resellers that offer "Windows Upgrade Options" for System Builder Editions (Vista Ultimate SP1 + upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate for 169, for example). As they are sold and shipped as boxed versions, they are clearly not bound to a specific hardware; the only thing that distinguishes those "OEM" versions from "normal" ones is the lack of phone support by MS and possibly other support options, too. So, they are of less use for businesses but a good choice for consumers who want to save nearly 50% of the retail price.Mobile AMD64 3000+, VIA Apollo K8T800 chipset, 1 G RAM, ATIRadeonMobility 9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),F:DATA (250G)

I have had my share of problems with Microsoft regarding OEM software. Some of it depending on what country are and in some cases the state. I live in the US and use the First Sales Doctrine as a guide line however, I am not a attorney so understanding is not easy.
