Computer not assigned a network address by DHCP Server
Exactly every 7 minutes and 7 seconds that Win 7 is up I get the following error in event viewer:"Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x001FD022EB19. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."DetailsLog Name: Microsoft-Windows-Dhcpv6-Client/AdminSource: Microsoft-Windows-DHCPv6-ClientDate: 31/01/2009 1:42:39 PMEvent ID: 1001Task Category: Address Configuration State EventLevel: ErrorKeywords: User: LOCAL SERVICEComputer: Mike-PCDescription:Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x001FD022EB19. It seems like there are some issues with IPv6 compatibility of either your network adapter or your router, but nothing to really worry about. Disabling IPv6 for your current network adapter might keep the error from showing up in the Event Viewer. Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings -> Right mouse click on said network adapter -> Properties -> Uncheck 'Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)' -> Press OK. You might have to reboot your computer for changes to take effect.

HiYour router does not support IPv6. What to do to fix it you decide

It's strange that the error message doesn't show up under Vista on the same computer. I might try the disable IPv6 and see how it affects me. As far as the router goes, I have never seen any router specifically state that it supports IPv6. Under the network properties it shows IPv6 connectivity as "Local" with IPv4 as "Internet". Not sure what that means if anything. My router is a Netgear FWG-114P on a wired home network.cheers

Hi,Please follow the instructions suggested by Frop, and if it works, mark his thread as the answer. Some Vista machines under certain network conditions won't be able to get a DHCP address if TCP/IPv6 is enabled. But in your case, most probably IPv6 is buggy on Win7 B1. Jabez Gan [MVP] - http://www.msblog.org

OS and trying to help itswheels get rid of the error. Where exactly does "What to do to fix it you decide" come in as an actual answer?

FropOk what is the point to write something uou have alreadt written above?I said "What to do to fix it you decide", because your advice to disable IPv6 will bring to him additional problems like this preventing creation of homegroup if IPv6 is disabled and maybe some other problems! This is not competition, but to help means to resolve the problem, but not to solve it somehow by creating a lot of other problems

Are you saying homegroups and/or other network functionalities explicitly depend on the virtual application of a protocol that isn't widely supported yet?

Yes, but why do not ask me. I reported this issue and via error repoting toolI cannot create new home group if IPv6 support is disabled.I just posted general thread to let other know for this issue.

Well the answer proposed but Frop did in fact work. I disabled IPv6 in network properties and that has stopped the error in Event Viewer. Interestingly tho under NIC properties it still shows IPv4 as Internet and IPv6 as "Limited". So far I haven't noticed any side effects. As far as my router not supporting IPv6 I have no idea if this is right or wrong. I've checked around some shops and noone has any idea on that but suggest that if it works on the same machine under Vista then the router must support it.I tend to think that on this system the IPv6 is faulty in W7.
