Computer gets past bios and Post but windows 7 doesn't start
I have had my PC for about a year now with no problems. Now however I am having an issue with random blank screens while trying to power on my computer. It doesn't always happen but it is becoming more frequent. When I turn the computer on it runs through the POST and when windows is suppose to start it sits at a blank screen with a flashing underscore. At this point the PC is unresponsive and I need to retsart it. When I resart, sometimes it will go all the way to windows and sometimes it will go back to the blank screen. What is causing this? Window runs fine when it loads.

Hello Bane85318, It could be a number of things, including a prelude to disk failure so make sure any importand data is backed up. I would suggest you first try running a chkdsk /r 1. From windows, go to my computer and right click on the hard drive and select properties. 2. Select tools tab and select CheckDiskNow 3. Put a checkmark in both Automatically fix... as well as Scan for and Attempt... 4. It will prompt you to run a scheduled checkdisk at restart, select yues and restart PC. Post back if you get any errors during checkdisk operation. Miguel Miguel Fra / Falcon ITS Computer & Network Support, Miami, FL Visit our Knowledgebase Sharepoint Site

Sounds hardware related, could be one of many things but I would suspect HDD or possibly power supply. Run the chdsk as instructed by falcon, use the native windows memory diagnostic (by typing memory diagnostic in the search box). For more in depth troubleshooting you may want to take it to a shop, a good shop will have the tools to test the power supply and the diagnostic tools to analyze your computer.

Thank you for the fast reply. Lastnight I reinstalled windows after backing up my files. I am still running into the same issue so it is most likely a hareware issue like you both suggested. I will run the chkdsk when I get home and post the results. Thank you both again for the fast reply.

Did you do any BIOS changes after reinstalling Windows? If there is not any change after you reinstall, we can confirm that this is a hardware problem. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I didn't change anything. I took out the graphics cards and just used tha on board as suggested by another IT and sonce I am still have the same issues I am 100% positive that it is the HHD. I have a stripe raid setup so unfortunatly I need tyo figure out which drive is good. If I were to set them up as seperate drive and run the windows diagnostic would it tell me which drive have the problem?

Download the drive utility from the drive manufacturer's support. (DOS version) Burn a bootable cd and run the quick test on the drives. Also, check the display setting in the BIOS to use the onboard first on enable it.

Thank you everyone for the fast support. I have a new HHD in and I will run the drive utility on the old drives to figure out which is faulty. Thanks again
