Computer frequently wakes up by itself
My standard configuration is to disable mouse wakeup and allow keyboard wakeup. Vista behaved well but Windows 7 Beta 1 frequently wakes the computer from sleep without human interaction. Other than finding out if they only moved the headstones when my house was built, is anyone else having this issue or have a solution? Looking at the log I suppose I can wait for it to happen again and check the running tasks' PID. I searched the registry for the "Correlation ActivityID" but didn't get a hit. I had this problem also. What solved this problem for me was to go to "Control Panel\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings\Sleep\Allow wake timers" an set this to disable.Hope that helps,SirTazofMania

Didn't work for me. Power Troubleshooter just says "Wake Source: Unknown".So far I seem to have fixed it by disconnecting and reconnecting all my peripherals, but I guess I won't know for sure until tonight.

I was successful by setting device manager/ network adapters/ ethernet controller (Power Management)to not allow it towake. So far both computers I have running will now sleep.

There are various places to change settings, which I would recommend changing all settings to potentially solve this problem.First place to look is power management. Go into Control Panel\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings\ and go into Change Plan Settings. Then go into Change Advanced Power Settings. Open the Sleep setting, and disable Wake Timers as mentioned previously. Then, if you are on a network and have media sharing active, go down to Multimedia Settings (still in advanced power settings) and choose "Allow the computer to sleep" under "When Sharing Media". Do this step and the above step for each power plan you use.The last thing to change, as mentioned previously, is network card settings. In the Device Manager, udner Network Adapters, go into the properties of each network adapter. Under Power Management deselect "Allow this device to wake the computer". For some network cards this will be off by default, but for others (like my laptop wireless card" it will be on by default and wake the computer.Hope one of these three things helps! If not, you might also try disabling media sharing unless you are using it.

Thanks for the advice; I wasn't getting this issue on the Beta,it appeared after the first run of Windows Update on the RC. Disabling the timers and the wake up option on the NICs has sorted it.
