Hi Katia,· Did you make any software or hardware changes on the machine prior to this issue?· Does the computer freezes while using any particular application?Let’s follow these methods & check if it helps.Method 1If you have any unnecessary external device connected to the machine, you may unplug them & check if the issue persists.Method 2a) You may start the computer in safe mode & check if the issue persists.b) If the issue does not persist in safemode, you may configure the computer in clean boot and check if the issue persists. It will start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs and helps to eliminate software conflicts. The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the section ‘Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state’ from the article: How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Hope the information helps. KatiaI suggest you look for clues in the System Log in Event Viewer. In the Application Log you will most likely find a Warning Report referring to the Application hanging but this is merely a symptom of your problem. You need to find another report giving the details of cause of the problem. To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, right click and select Filter Current Log. Check the box before Error and click on OK and you see only Error reports. Click on the Date and Time Header to sort. You may need to click a second time to see the latest Report at the top. You may not need to use the filter to find the Report as Errors and Warnings tend to stand out in a long list mainly consisting of Information reports. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. In the window is a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message and a paste into the body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

KatiaIf the computer shuts down by itself that suggests system failure. You have given us a general indication of the nature of the problem but specific error reports make finding a solution so much easier. When a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) system failure occurs for most users there is insufficient time to note down in full what it says; the exact text is important to anyone trying to diagnose what is wrong. You can gain the time needed when the error next occurs by following the procedure described below. If you haven't done so already disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by allowing time to write down the Stop Error code and related information properly. Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced, Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck the box before Automatically Restart. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure after getting this information as this setting is best left to not to allow Automatic Restart. If the system failure occurs during the booting of the computer you need to try a different approach. You can access the Windows Advanced Options Menu on many computers by constantly pressing the F8 (Function) key during Start-Up and selecting the option - Disable automatic restart on system failure. This method is not always easy to use as it can be difficult to depress the F8 at exactly the right time. Try again if it does not work first time. On some computers a different key has to be used. Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any from than more than 48 hours ago. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. You will see a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. This places a copy of the report into your Clipboard. Paste into the body your message. Make sure that this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. Please do not concentrate on theThe instruction at "0x5ff3d322" referencend memory at "0x8d3ecc897". The memory could not be "read" reportas that will lead nowhere. Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

All except one are "Information"reports -see Event type above in the example I have quoted. The only Warning you have posted relates to a report recording that you changed your mindLook at the time and date of each report to identify when you have started your computer. More reports are usually generated during the period the compurter is booted than later. It can help to resolve errors occuring close to the time the boot started first as this can resolve later errors. Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

Until you post an example of an Error from Event Viewer I cannot help. One needs information to diagnose a fault. What is your computer make and model? Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell
