Computer description in Vista
When I open network view window in Vista I can't see computer descriptions. How do I enable them?

Hi Alex, I am sorry to say that in Windows Vista, the Computer Description is not available. This behavior is by design.

It will be not available in future versions of Windows too? It is very impotant for me as I use this attribute as a workstation identifier in the enterprise.

Hi, I have on information regarding designs of our future operating systems. I will do my best to report your concerns to the related team. However, I cannot guarantee that the report will be adopted.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but please add my vote to those wanting to change this behavior. Any company with any turnover whatsoever will find that it's a lot easier to change the description than to remove the PC from the domain, reboot, change the name, reboot, re-join the domain, reboot. To say "I want to find Joe's PC" by a detailed view of the Network Neighborhood is much easier and less time-consuming. Any hints as to why it was dropped? Apparently the info is still available via the 'net view' command (found on another thread on technet), so all that's been done is eliminating it from the GUI (and thus adding to administration time).

Better late than never, right? I've often wondered who MS gets their ideas from when it comes to features. Who decided this was not needed? Who did they ask to see if this was a good idea? Do they (MS) even care? I don't think so. Why then do they still include computer description in the System Information?
