Computer Name changing on its own, automatically...
Hi, Recently, within the last 2 weeks, I have had (3) Windows 7 Professional PCs change automatically change their computer name to another computer in my organization. The strange thing is they all changed thier name to the same computer in this case ( csi-8bzz9f1 ). See image below. If I try to logging in to the computer with and available network connection I get "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship.". I can change the name back to the correct name if I log in locally or via a cached profile (No Network)and everything is fine. Why is this happening to my Windows 7 PC's? Any thoughts? Thanks RDuquette

Hi, According to your description, I suggest to perform these tests to troubleshoot the issue: 1 Remove from the domain and rejoin to the domain. 2 Check if any PGOs are applied on machine. 3 Remove the Windows 7 from AD and add it again. By the way, did this issue occurs when Windows 7 are within workgroup? If the issue only occur when join the domain, the issue should related with Windows Server, maybe GPO. Furthermore, about the error “The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship”, You may try to change domain from FQDN to the short domain name and Logout and log back in as the domain user. Regarding this issue, you could also refer to the following article: Error: The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship In addition, you can also contact Windows Server form to check if any server settings lead to this issue: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. I have a similar but yet differnt scenario. I changed the names of my systems and reboot and it seems to work. However, shortly later if I check again the name would have reverted back to the name it had previously. I did some digging and found out that the name is being created based on the IP address of the system. Eg. If the ip is 10.10.10.234 then the machine name would be automatically made to be XXX-234. I am assuming that this is some knd of local policy or mayb a registry entry. Maybe someone can help me in identifying where this problem might be occuring? Thanks in advance!
