Computer FREEZES then Works then FREEZES, etc
To whomever can help,Thank you in advance for reading this. My issue is the following:I have Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Version 2 Service pack 3.Intel Core(TM) Duo CPU e*$)) @ 3.00 GHz, 2.25 GB of RAMComputer has 3 dual screen Nvidia video cards and I have 6 screens working total. I run Tradestation(Stock program) and this computer has been working great for over a year. Recently, I am encountering problems when I open my e-mail system, (Microsoft Office Outlook 2007) Part of Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 and I open my browser together at the same time. It freezes then works then freezes then works.. This only happens sometime but it has been doing this more and more recently. 1. I am unable to open up PDF files, doc file in WORD, and xls Excel file when I have my browser open. If I close my browser, then I can open a PDF that is an attachment in my incoming mail.. 2. If I open a browser and then try to open another browser, then it freezes. It will then be all right, then it will freeze again.. Then, if I go to my mail and click an incoming mail, it will not allow me to open the message.. If I close the browser, I can then open my incoming mail.3. Sometime I try to open another browser and it doesn't work. The top part of the screen is white. I have to close the browser then exit out of my e-mail program then try the browser and it then works. 4. Sometimes one of my screens doesn't startup if I restart my computer. Only sometimes. I then shut off the screen and turn it on 10 minutes later and it works? Very strange and does not happen all the time. As you can see, this can be very frustrating. If you have any advice for me, I would appreciate it. I would like to run a scan, but I do not know how. I do not visit any crazy websites and I do not have a virus(Ithink), Im pretty sure. I run AVG and I programed it two days ago not to scan the tradestation file with a tech support guy from tradestation. How do I find out if any other programs are running on this machine? What typr of scan should I run? Please help.. Thank you in advance.. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak? I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report. Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents Folder. Open the file, and place the cursor anywhere in the file, select Edit, Select All to highlight all text and copy and paste into the body of your message. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it is more informative.Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any from than more than 48 hours ago. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. You will see a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. This places a copy of the report into your Clipboard. Paste into the body your message. Make sure that this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

You didn’t post the information from Task Manager.Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?Your system would benefit from housekeeping and the event viewer reports suggest the system is under pressure.Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to empty your Recycle Bin, remove Temporary Internet Files and other selected options. I also recommend you click on the More Options tab, System Restore and remove all but the latest System Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.Using the System restore option is most appropriate when your system is running slow and you need to increase free disk space on your C partition. If you have errors which might be resolved using System Restore to put your system settings back to before the error first occurred do not use this option. If more than one person uses the computer and they have their own user Log on you need to run Disk CleanUp in each user profile to remove all unwanted files.A better programme than Disk CleanUp is cCleaner but note that cCleaner will not handle System Restore points. Removing older restore points can be important if you have limited free disk space. cCleaner comes with a Registry tool. Do not use this tool as like any registry cleaner it can lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadWhen you next post Event Viewer reports try again to use the copy technique I suggested as it gives more complete information. After you have done the housekeeping I have suggested above shut down the computer. Wait 30 seconds and start the computer. Wait 5 minutes and then check Event Viewer for reports generated in the previous 5 minutes.Another suggestion I have for you to try.Download and install User Profile CleanUp Service. It will help with shutting down the computer.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b286e6d-8912-4e18-b570-42470e2f3582&displaylang=enHope this helps, Gerry Cornell
