Computer Doesn't Recognize Speakers - Windows XP - Can't Resolve the Issue
I had a malware attack, and subsequently bought an anti-virus software and reinstalled Windows XP. Now, I can't hear anything. The volume and speaker areas are grayed out and stated "no audio device". I downloaded the Microsoft Service Pack 3 but that didn't help. I have tried to install Realtex Drivers, but I keep coming upon those fraudulent "free downloads" sites. I tried rebooting and restoring to an earlier time but unfortunately, since the system was cleaned this morning after the attack, the earliest restore time is this morning when I downloaded the anti-virus software. I tried accessing "BIOS", but I didn't see anything that referenced "sound card". !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do people continue to post in the WRONG forum? The title of this forum is "Windows 7 Networking" yet you state you have Windows XP. And you don't even mention anything about networking! Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bb264763.aspx for Windows XP.
