Computer Browser service stops on Vista startup
The Computer Browser service is set to Automatic. Yet every time I start/restart Vista, the service is stopped. The event log has an entry for "The Computer Browser service entered the running state." immediately followed by an entry for "The Computer Browser service entered the stopped state."If I manually start the service, it starts fine and stays running, until Vista is restarted. There are no errors logged anywhere that I can see.Is this a known issue?

Ok I had the same issue and just figured out how to fix it... Computer Browser depends on RPC, and in Vista RPC apparently has a second component called Remote Procedure Call Locator. The RPC Locator service is set to manual by default. I set it to automatic, rebooted, and Computer Browser now starts ok. Hope this helps...

Ok I did find a workaround... definitely not a fix, but you can make a .bat file with the following:net start "Computer Browser"and put it Startup folder or Run reg key. This will force startup of the service until a real fix is found.(p.s. I tried to add this as an edit to my previous post but it doesn't seem to show up, so sorry if this ends up double posted... fear my IT skills as I can't figure out the Technet forums lol)

You're not the only ones. For me it only happens on Vista 64bit computers - all of them.
